Supervisor Gaspar: “We Cannot Continue to Toggle Our Economy”

San Diegans have done a commendable job, which is one of the reasons we are the only Southern California County not currently on the Governor’s “Watch List”, but the virus rages and we will likely find ourselves there tomorrow and come Monday, see a pretty significant rollback in services like indoor dining. SUPERVISOR GASPAR SAYS SUPERVISOR FLETCHER PLAYING POLITICS WITH PANDEMIC IS SHAMEFUL

SUPERVISOR GASPAR SAYS SUPERVISOR FLETCHER PLAYING POLITICS WITH PANDEMIC IS SHAMEFUL

“Unfortunately, it is an election year and Supervisor Fletcher continues to spread a false narrative that his colleagues are not following the reopening guidance of the Governor and our own Public Health Officer. The hierarchy under a declared public health emergency does not permit this to happen. During these times, the Public Health Officer has authority over the Board of Supervisors and the Governor has authority over her. San Diego can be more restrictive than the State but not less. Not once have we stepped ahead of the Public Health Officer or Governor in reopening a business sector. Not once have we ignored our agreed upon health metrics that guide our response. We couldn’t do that even if we wanted to. Instead we have worked tirelessly to build capacity in the healthcare system and prepare our business community with safety plans to be ready once given the greenlight by the Public Health Officer and Governor. If Supervisor Fletcher has a problem with the reopening of San Diego, then his real disagreement is with the Public Health Officer and the Governor—not his colleagues on the board. Playing politics with this pandemic is shameful.”
