The future is right now at the Project Cornerstone training event for Escondido Union High School District students. Teens get hands-on experience from experts in construction, mechanics, welding and heavy equipment. The program makes it relevant by using STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) and NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards). Students also learn about the environmental and economic benefits of using locally sourced minerals. The teens told me they loved being able to work with all of the materials and see first-hand how projects get done.
