Jim Desmond and Nathan Fletcher took the oath of office and are officially our new County Supervisors. I look forward to working with them and Supervisors Cox and Jacob as we continue to make San Diego County a great place to live.
My time as Chairwoman of the Board of Supervisors has come to an end and what a year it’s been! I handed the gavel over to Supervisor Dianne Jacob and wished her all the best as she takes the reins as Chairwoman of the Board for 2019. Congratulations Dianne!
They are transforming lives and communities by permanently solving family homelessness. Solutions for Change is a brilliant model that has now been nationally recognized. I was so excited when 10News anchor Steve Atkinson invited me to be part of the surprise in presenting the Solutions founder & CEO Chris Megison and his wife Tammy with a 10News Leadership Award! In the top picture I'm hiding with some Solutions employees waiting for the cue to surprise Chris and Tammy. Watch the story here:https://bit.ly/2RZZJkv
There’s always a sense of excitement when breaking ground on a new project. This one in San Marcos is particularly special because it’s the location of phase 2 of TERI Inc. This non-profit is changing the way society sees those with disabilities by empowering them, using some unique methods like equine therapy for children with Autism. The new facility will create so many amazing new opportunities for TERI and the beautiful souls they serve!
These smiling faces are a few of the 2,500 San Diego County employees whose mission it is to lift people out of poverty, promote self-sufficiency, health, and well-being. January was Poverty Awareness Month and I wanted to present the staff members in this department with a County proclamation to recognize their passion and thank them for striving to improve the lives of the people we serve. Patrick Schmidt, Sherry Brideau, Christian Chavez, Karla Munoz-Supelveda, Stephanie Savoie and ALL of you in Self-Sufficiency Services, thank you for all you do!
