Passing of the Gavel

I am honored and humbled being appointed 2018 Chairwoman of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors. Thank you Supervisor Dianne Jacob for your leadership in 2017. As we approach the State of the County Address on February 27th, I'm thrilled to be rolling out some new and innovative initiatives that I believe will enhance the quality of life for all San Diegans.

Paving Way For More Recycled Roads

San Diego County is facing a critical shortage of aggregate materials needed to build our roads. I recently visited George Weir Asphalt Construction in Escondido where they're using recycled asphalt in their mixtures. However, state and county mandates prevent them from using more than 15% recycled resources. I would like to see this amount increase before we hit crisis mode which will dramatically increase the cost of building roads

San Diego Zoo's Conservation Efforts

I was so fortunate to see first-hand the great work being done at our world-class San Diego Zoo. I am especially impressed by the zoo's collaborative conservation and breeding efforts that helped remove pandas from the endangered list. The visit reminded me what an incredible gem we have in our community.

Caught Reading!

Busted! I was caught reading the "the Sandcastle Girls" as part of KPBS's One Book, One San Diego literary Program. Its purpose is to bring together our community and encourage people to join together in the shared experience of reading and discussing the same book. Happy reading!
