Improving Our Roads

I got quite the education on what goes into making our roads when I visited Pavement Recycling Systems in Riverside County. They’re using recycled asphalt to build roads, claiming reduced costs and improved quality of their pavements. While we use some recycled asphalt in San Diego County, I am always on the lookout for innovative ways to get more bang for the taxpayer buck.

AB 1250 - Restricting the County

Great chat with my friend and talk radio host Mark Larson at KFMB 760 AM.  We talked about the devastation in Texas and preparations San Diego County has made for a natural disaster. We also delved into AB 1250, a bill that could impact everyone in the County because it would significantly restrict the County's ability to provide services using non-profits and other partnerships. I hope you can take a few minutes to listen. Here's the link if you missed it: http://bit.ly/2wTxKYN.  (I come in about 25:00 into the show)

Clear the Shelter Breaks Record!

There were lots of smiles and wagging tails during San Diego County's 3rd annual Clear the Shelter Day! 306 animals found their forever homes this year, just breaking last year's record of 304. The County waived adoption fees and made sure every dog, cat and even rabbits were spayed, neutered and microchipped before being adopted. I'm so excited that hundreds of animals found new homes but there are still so many waiting to be taken home and loved. If you would like to see them, go to the Animal Services website at sddac.com and click on the "adoptions page".

Valuable Community Resource

I was privileged to get a first-hand look at San Diego’s Ronald McDonald House near Rady Children's Hospital. I couldn’t be more impressed with the amazing work and service they provide to families during one of the most stressful times in their lives. I can only imagine the peace of mind for a parent having a free place to stay that’s close to your child’s hospital.

Snoozing for the Food Bank

The San Diego Food Bank partnered with the new Snooze A.M. Eatery in La Jolla with a unique way to raise funds and awareness for the Food Bank. The restaurant had a soft opening, offering free breakfast. They did welcome donations which they gave to the Food Bank.

For the Love of Reading

There's something so special about reading a book with children. Reading with your little ones is a memory they will always treasure. Thank you to San Diego County Library Solana Beach branch for inviting me to your "Storytime" session.
